My design and brief for this vase cabinet had at its core the instruction to create a piece that explored and manifested the innate sensuality of timber. The wood chosen to convey this was Herefordshire tiger oak – an oak that, when alive, was beginning to be discoloured by the beefsteak fungus attached to it. It demonstrates the full range of colours from natural to brown oak.
The overall construction takes into consideration the timber’s perpetual adjustments to the ambient moisture conditions of its surroundings.
This cabinet was launched at the House of Commons in the first furniture exhibition ever held there and awarded a Bespoke Guild Mark from the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers.
