Alpine Chalet

alpine chalet

A client who was very happy with our work in their UK home challenged us to modernise the interior of their ‘faux fitted’ alpine chalet, with the brief to bring the same magic brush that we’d brought to their Kentish house.

At the centre of the chalet was to be a three storied glass staircase at the base of which would be a supporting steel structure. The client wished this structure to be disguised and given visual weight with timber cladding. A combination of face and end grain elm provided the solution, with the second staircase tread extended into a bench for good measure.

The brief took in all the chalet’s ten bedrooms, its landings and entrance hallways ranging from general storage, doors, architraves and skirting boards through to major statement pieces of furniture in each room.

We were able to call upon our history of training apprentices, many of whom have evolved into craftsmen running their own workshops, who together with the six makers in our own workshop meant that we had sixteen fully trained makers ensuring that the highest standards of making prevailed throughout.

Walnut and elms were used throughout the ground floor. Oaks including tiger oak, brown oak and limed oak were used on the first and second floors, with sycamore and oaks on the top.
