oyster box

Originally designed as apprentice exercises, these boxes have evolved into one of the favourites of our repeated works. They are made from a particular cut of the London plane tree. This cut is described as quarter sawn and it produces the exotic delights seen here. It is then re-christened ‘lacewood’.

The opening of the pivot lid reveals an ash bottom. The pellets on the fronts of these boxes are made from Andorran padouk, which I found hidden at the back of a specialist timber supplier’s shop in 1979.
