This was a commission to design and make a memorial to Geoffrey Tucker CBE. Geoffrey raised vast amounts of money for good causes. He did this by entertaining the great, the good and the willing to dine at a circular table “where they could transcend their differences and settle on their shared desire to improve people's lives”. On his death, a group of friends and his widow, Naomi, decided there could be no more fitting memorial to Geoffrey’s life than an object, around which the tradition could continue. His name is carved into the solid table top at its centre, by the eminent letter carver and designer Caroline Webb.
The table is shown here at the Stanton Guildhouse, near Broadway in Worcestershire & in its present home in the meeting room of the Cicely Saunders palliative care unit at King's College Hospital, London. This is particularly apt, because Geoffrey helped to raise the finance to build this exemplary human resource.
