Price: £8,500 guideline for 1500mm diameter version
This is one of our flagship circular tables. I love circular tables because they are non-hierarchical and inclusive, everyone is part of the action.
The diameters of the table differ according to how many you wish to sit: we make them at 1300mm to sit 4 to 6, 1500mm to sit 6 to 8, 1800mm to sit 8 to 10, 2200mm to sit 10 to 12 and 2500mm to sit 12 to 14, and we would love a shot at any other size.
A word about veneering; if you made a solid top out of radiating segments, the timber movement between summer and winter conditions would cause the tops to split along the joints. In order to stop this, we use the long established technique of veneering (most of the fine 18th and 19th century furniture was veneered), but we use workshop cut veneers that finish 3mm thick, strong enough and durable enough to take that emphatic thump of the signet ring or the clatter of the ladle. This veneering techniques allow us to display the more vigorous, maverick timbers, those with character and awkwardness and beauty.
Please contact us if you would like Matthew to give the extended explanation of this enduring 18th century technique.
Shown here with a mirror-matched European walnut top and a ‘brickwork' cone base. Also available with the ‘sheath’ cone base. This piece is double veneered to show the very finest and often wildest timbers in their mirror-matched finery.
